The Dack says I Love You, Man...

Finally the Dack gets to review something before it comes out. Two weeks ago the Dack got to attend a sneak preview of I Love You, Man.

The Dack enjoyed this movie... I'm a big fan of male friendship and believe that no man can be be complete without having some sort of male bonding in their life and this movie is says it all so much funnier. The story is about Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) as a guy who has no male friends and seems to be just rolling with life.... until his new fiance and her friends point out to him that he has no guy friends... uncomfortable with not having anyone to be the best man at his wedding he goes on a search for a friend. After a couple of man dates set up by family members that totally back fire Peter meets Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) who is basically the opposite of Peter but after a couple of drinks they find enough common ground for friendship to blossom. The two main characters in this film are played by Paul Rudd and Jason Segel and their characters are very similar to other roles they have played.... this is not a bad thing. The Dack is a huge fan of both of these actors and them doing what they usually do becomes hilarious when you mix it together. The rest of the cast does a good job of providing extra laughs but your enjoyment of the movie totally rests on the shoulders of Rudd and Segel. I love you man isn't a complex movie by any means but the Dack doesn't need his comedy's to be deep, just funny and I Love You, Man fits the bill!

This movie is a bromance in the same line as Swingers and Superbad but targets those of us between 25 and 40 far better. This movie isn't perfect and does lag a bit but it totally pays off in the end. If you are a guy and didn't think you needed any strong male friendships I hope this movie shows you the error of your ways. There are some things guys just need to hear from other guys. The Dack laughed enough to give this one sevenDacks.

Sweet Star Trek Trailer......

The Dack has been worried about JJ Abrams redo of the Star Trek franchise since it first got reported a couple of years ago...... the first two trailers were nothing to get excited about.... but the latest has given the Dack hope for something good.

Let's just pray that JJ Abrams can pull it off better than MI 3!!!

OK, so you might not want to get your hopes up thinking this movie will save the Star Trek universe but this trailer should get your butt in the theater on opening weekend!!

Watchmen hits the big screen………

The long awaited graphic novel has finally made it to the big screen……The Dack read it many years ago and found it to be the driest comic book I have ever read, fortunately the film is a much sleeker and sexier package….. a epic story that covers many different characters and also tackles issues like basic human nature, evils of war, if the humans are capable of a peaceful existence, violence, rape and others that comic books at the time did not cover.

After several failed attempts at bringing this story to the big screen……. Zack Snyder’s version reached the goal and does a wonderful job of being a cinematic representation of the original story. Just like he did in 300, Snyder gives us slick action sequences that are a pleasure to watch. For the most part the acting is spot on and although there are a couple of weak spots……… this film is an adaptation of a comic book so the Dack expects and accepts such things…… when super hero films have Shakespearean quality acting my love for the genre will die.

For those that have never read the Watchmen graphic novel, the Watchmen is a beautifully filmed violent, sex-filled movie about super hero’s you’ve never heard of but it also has more to think about than any super hero film that has come before it. Because the Dack enjoyed these things Watchmen gets sevenDacks.

The Return of Terminator.....

The Dack has a serious history with the Terminator franchise..... Terminator 2 was the first R rated film that my dad took me to the theater too see...... I will never forget the battle between the 2 terminators in a shopping mall that spills into the streets and ends up being a chase between a Harley and a Semi.... classic action cinema!!!

Anyway this entry isn't for you to read about the Dack's reminiscing but it is to let you know that the Terminator franchise is back this year........ and from the latest trailer it looks like we finally get to see the human race on the brink of extinction on the big screen!!!

Do yourself a favor and check this trailer out!!!
